LABC building excellence award entry

One of our recent builds has been entered into the 2017 LABC building excellence award, read about the building project below:
About the building project

A uniquely styled Fishing Lodge nestled within the trees, that surround this picturesque lake. The Lake itself is situated just outside the village of Great Brickhill, Bedfordshire, and the new Lodge overlaps the edge of the lake, which replaces a 1960s timber lodge. The New Lodge has a Glass, Sherborne Stone and clear Red Cedar clad facade under a slate roof. There is an impressive 180° view of the lake from the members room, which has a full height vaulted ceiling, giving a wonderful light and airy feel to the place. The new Lodge was constructed for the use of club members that currently fish the lake for trout, but looking to increase membership and offer the wider public the opportunity to enjoy such a wonderful location that is full of wildlife.

Performance & Sustainability

The fishing Lodge has been designed to encourage greater participation, to look aesthetically pleasing and constructed with a choice of building products in which to maximise it’s life span, so that it will be there for many future generations to enjoy.
Designed and located to make the most of the amazing views over the lake and woodland this building gives you a wonderful sense of being outside whilst benefiting from its comfortable and unique environment. Sustainable sources of energy has also been taken into account where possible, which means that the building has a low carbon footprint, with it’s reduced energy consumption and enhanced sustainability longterm.

Some of the key features include:
  • Photovoltaic panels which will support the running of the building including:
  • Electric underfloor heating
  • Low energy kitchen appliances.
  • Low energy LED lighting
  • Low energy waste treatment plant
  • The building has been highly insulated, and double glazed throughout reducing heat loss.
  • Log burning stove is another sustainable feature.
  • The existing well has been cleaned and renovated, and now provides all of the fresh drinking water for the Fishing Lodge.
  • Bird and bat boxes have been installed around the site to help promote wild life.

Shop fronts renewal. We will be involved in part of an exciting scheme where we will be renewing the shop fronts and returning them to an old fashioned style. Hopefully, this will help to bring back the High street shopping experience for the customer.

Work well under way now at the Woodfield Farm extension project. The client has now decided to add underfloor heating, additional drainage, an underpinned gable end, new bathroom, change the electrics, and investigate damp problems due to it being a traditional timber frame building. This project is growing and growing!
